Transforming Global Payment Infrastructures to Digital: Leveraging New Technology to Change the Game
In an age where we can talk to anyone in the world instantly and for free, why do global payments take days, cost an arm and a leg and seem so unreliable? Global payments should work in real-time, on demand and at a low cost. This session presents a case study of the opportunities and challenges for industry stakeholders of migrating to new digital, globally inter-operable payment platforms. It will focus on three specific dimensions of the cross-border challenge: Focus and product-market fit; experimentation vs commercialization, and a look at the underlying block chain technology.

A Consumer View of a Cashless Society
RFi Group research actively shows the displacement of cash across the globe, with the UK as a stand-out market. UK mobile wallet users are almost ubiquitously cashless, with 82% opting for other payments methods over cash when making regular purchases at small retailers. Furthermore, 1 in 4 of all UK consumers can imagine an entirely cashless society in the future, suggesting that this is an industry priority that cannot be ignored. This session will present insights and offer strategy recommendations to industry stakeholders.

A Perfect Storm
The UK payments industry is under tremendous regulatory pressure to evolve, innovate, and comply with multiple new regulations- seemingly all coming into effect around the same time. Between PSD2, Open Banking, GDPR, and NPSO, how can incumbents possibly keep up? This panel will explore the implications of all these imminent new regulatory requirements, in the context of compliance and migration strategies, and the potential opportunities at the other end of the tunnel.
